Situated in Mediterranean Europe, Italy has land frontiers with France in the north-west, Switzerland and Austria in the north and Slovenia in the north-east. There is a great deal of variety in the landscape in Italy, although it is characterized predominantly by two mountain chains: the Alps and the Apennines. The former extends over 600 miles from east to west. It consists of great massifs in the western sector, with peaks rising to over 14,000 feet, including Monte Bianco (Mont Blanc), Monte Rosa and Cervino (the Matterhorn). Museo della Collegiata di Sant'Andrea - Firenze in Toscana

 

Il Museo, ubicato nella piazzetta adiacente la Collegiata e fondato nel 1859, è uno dei più antichi musei ecclesiastici nel quale si possono ammirare alcuni autentici capolavori dell’arte toscana dei secoli XIV-XVI. Dal suggestivo Battistero nel quale sono riuniti tutti gli affreschi (tra i quali il capolavoro di Masolino raffigurante Cristo in pietà) e per cui fu scolpito l’imponente fonte battesimale attribuito a Bernardo Rossellino, si passa nella sala destinata alle sculture nella quale emergono i due bassorilievi rappresentanti Madonna con Bambino, opere di Tino di Camaino e Mino da Fiesole.

 

La Pinacoteca è allestita al piano superiore, dove i dipinti sono disposti cronologicamente: dal polittico dell’anonimo artista pistoiese denominato "Maestro del 1336" agli interessanti prodotti delle botteghe fiorentine, operose tra la fine del XIV e gli inizi del XV secolo.
