Latium (Lazio) is a region in Central Italy, on the Tyrrhenian side of the peninsula, except for a small strip on the Adriatic side. Lying to the west on the Tyrrhenian Sea, this region borders to the north with Tuscany, with Umbria and for a short stretch with the Marches. To the east Latium borders with Abruzzo and briefly with Molise and with Campania to the south; within its present limits it has not, however, geographical unity.
History. The morphology of Latium is very complex but four main sub-regions can be defined: the Tyrrhenian coast, the inland plains, the mountains of the Latium Pre-Apennines and a true Apennine area. The coast is mainly low and uniform, broken only by the spurs of Linaro point, Mount Circeo (541 m.) and the Gaeta headland: the Ponzian Islands, which are part of Latium, lie opposite the south coast.

Esperia - Frosinone nel Lazio
La cittadina appare citata intorno al 1103, quando un gruppo di cavalieri guidati dal Duca di gaeta, Guglielmo de Blosseville, decisero di costruire una rocca sulla sommità di Monte Cecubo, in posizione strategica sulla direttrice Pontecorvo-Gaeta. Assieme a S. Giovanni Incarico e Pico , costituì il gruppo dei “castelli de foris”, cioè fuori della “terra di S. Benedetto”. Sul finire del 1805, intorno al suo castello si svolse la battaglia decisiva fra le truppe francesi e le bande del brigante Michele Pezza, detto “Fra Diavolo”. Nel 1867 la comunità decise di cambiare il nome di Roccaguglielmina in quello di Esperia. Notevole la Chiesa di santa Maria Maggiore, con una pala d’altare del pittore Zuccaro ed il monumento a donna Sveva Castani. Il territorio di Esperia, uno dei più vasti della Ciociaria, offre possibilità di escursioni naturalistiche fra le più belle e riposanti. Dalla cima delle sue montagne più alte si gode un meraviglioso panorama del mare Tirreno.
