Situated in Mediterranean Europe, Italy has land frontiers with France in the north-west, Switzerland and Austria in the north and Slovenia in the north-east. It consists of great massifs in the western sector, with peaks rising to over 14,000 feet, including Monte Bianco (Mont Blanc), Monte Rosa and Cervino (the Matterhorn). Chiesa di San Michele - Pisa in Tuscany
The church was rebuilt after the earthquake of 1846 that devastated the village and the whole area of the lower Pisan hills. The previous building dated back to the beginning of the 18th century, as the high altar of polychromatic marble attests.
Nevertheless, a Chapel of San Michele already existed in the 15th century. The façade and the interior of the present-day church were built in late neoclassical style with transept and small dome supported by four columns. On the walls there are hagiographical canvas, like for example the copy of “St. Michael the Archangel” by Raphael.
