Wildlife Reserve Kuzikus
Address - Kuzikus
General Information
This traditionally game-rich part of the Kalahari was transformed into a wildlife and guest farm and today enjoys the status of a private game sanctuary or wildlife reserve accepted by the Namibian State.
KUZIKUS (whitethorn) is one of Namibia’s wildlife farms selected by the government to preserve and protect extremely endangered species. Having obtained a special permission to renaturalise elephants and black rhinos, we offer you a good opportunity to see these rare animals in the wild.
In order to curb poaching, the world's most gifted trackers, the San (Bushmen), regularly track these animals which are highly sought-after by poachers. Close tracking has recently proven to be one of the most efficient ways of supervision and surveillance. In close cooperation with environmental protection efforts we endeavour to preserve aspects of unspoilt Africa.
Due to the high animal population human intervention becomes a necessity. Leopards and cheetahs are unable to keep the large numbers of antelopes in check. The mere catching of animals is equally insufficient since generally entire families are caught instead of selected heads. The most efficient way of eliminating old and mature animals is controlled hunting which Dr. Reinhard and his sons are entitled to do. As few as 2% (up to 5% during drought) are culled per year. Their meat is kept in our cold store and enriches our meals.
The main attraction are over 2500 heads of more than 20 different larger animal species such as eland, kudu, oryx, hartebeest, brindled gnu, black wildebeest, blesbok, springbok, steenbok, duiker, impala, zebra, ostrich and giraffe. Undisturbed by cattle and sheep they roam in liberty and find water at natural waterholes. The game sanctuary KUZIKUS is also home to many rare species such as pangolins, aardvarks, nesting vultures and an impressive array of other birds.
We are particularly devoted to the black rhino which is threatened by distinction. In order to ensure the best possible framework for the preservation and multiplication of rhinos, our reserve is located far away from any tourist route and major road and undisturbed by fences or public roads.
Its excellent accommodation (3 double rooms, 2 single rooms with bath, shower, toilet), lovely swimming pool with sauna and fitness room, fine cuisine, recreational and leisure facilities and interesting programme has gained KUZIKUS the highest and the top three star award by the Hotel Association of Namibia.
Our guests have the opportunity to go stalking in an open Landrover, observe animals in the wild and go hiking with Bushmen, horseriding or take part in the interesting KALAHARI WILDLIFE EDUCATION COURSE
