Tuscany is the fifth largest region in Italy. Wedged deeply like a triangle in the heart of Italy, it constitutes a transitional, area between the Po Delta and Liguria, which are highly industrialized, and those Italian regions which are still principally agricultural. It stretches over the western side of the Apennines and includes the islands of the Tuscan archipelago. It lies on the sea to the west and south-west and borders with Liguria to the north-west, Emilia-Romagna to the north, the Marches and Umbria to the east, and Latium to the south-east.
Its limits are clearly defined to the north but less evident to the east, crossing the main ridge of the Tusco-Emilian Apennines and taking in the upper Val Tiberina, becoming even more uncertain to the south-east and south where they appear to be justified only for historical, linguistic and generally cultural reasons.

Cenacolo del Ghirlandaio a Ognissanti - Firenze in Toscana
Il refettorio grande di Ognissanti è ubicato tra il primo e il secondo chiostro dell’antico convento degli Umiliati. Nella sala, in controfacciata, si apre un magnifico portale in pietra serena avente ai lati due lavabi del 1480. Nelle nicchie due affreschi con riferimento all’acqua: Sara al pozzo di Giacobbe e Mosé che fa scaturire l’acqua dalla roccia, opere seicentesche di Giuseppe Romei.
L’affresco centrale, che ricopre interamente la parete (m. 8,10 x 4), è opera di Domenico Ghirlandaio (1449-1494), che ha raggiunto qui uno dei massimi risultati della sua arte, con una rappresentazione dell’Ultima Cena pacata ma non priva di dramma: gli apostoli infatti sono raffigurati nel momento in cui Gesù preannuncia che uno di loro lo tradirà. Su richiesta dei frati committenti il Ghirlandaio abbonda nei particolari, apparentemente decorativi, ma che in realtà contengono precisi riferimenti simbolici al dramma della Passione e della Redenzione di Cristo: dalle piante sempreverdi al volo ...
