Tuscany is the fifth largest region in Italy. Wedged deeply like a triangle in the heart of Italy, it constitutes a transitional, area between the Po Delta and Liguria, which are highly industrialized, and those Italian regions which are still principally agricultural. It stretches over the western side of the Apennines and includes the islands of the Tuscan archipelago. It lies on the sea to the west and south-west and borders with Liguria to the north-west, Emilia-Romagna to the north, the Marches and Umbria to the east, and Latium to the south-east.
Its limits are clearly defined to the north but less evident to the east, crossing the main ridge of the Tusco-Emilian Apennines and taking in the upper Val Tiberina, becoming even more uncertain to the south-east and south where they appear to be justified only for historical, linguistic and generally cultural reasons.

A.N.P.I.L. Stazione Relitta di Pino Laricio - Pisa in Toscana
L’A.N.P.I.L. istituita nel dicembre 1997 con Delibera n. 66 del Consiglio Comunale di Buti è inserita nell’Elenco ufficiale delle Aree Protette Regionali (Del. n. 161 del 08/06/1999) ed occupa una estensione di 124 ettari. L’area protetta è stata istituita allo scopo di tutelare un biotopo di stazione relitta di Pinus laricio ed è situata alle pendici orientali dei Monti Pisani, tra il rilievo di Monte Cucco a nord e il rio Tanali, elemento basilare del sistema idrografico del padule di Bientina, a sud. La stazione si estende fino al confine con l’A.N.P.I.L.
Bosco Tanali. Il pino laricio è tra i più alti e maestosi pini selvatici: può raggiungere i 50 metri di altezza. Costituisce una sottospecie di Pinus nigra e fa parte della vegetazione mediterranea, presente in numero limitato solo in alcune zone del Mediterraneo: i Monti Pisani, l’Etna, la Corsica e la Calabria.
