Tuscany is the fifth largest region in Italy. Wedged deeply like a triangle in the heart of Italy, it constitutes a transitional, area between the Po Delta and Liguria, which are highly industrialized, and those Italian regions which are still principally agricultural. It stretches over the western side of the Apennines and includes the islands of the Tuscan archipelago. It lies on the sea to the west and south-west and borders with Liguria to the north-west, Emilia-Romagna to the north, the Marches and Umbria to the east, and Latium to the south-east.
Its limits are clearly defined to the north but less evident to the east, crossing the main ridge of the Tusco-Emilian Apennines and taking in the upper Val Tiberina, becoming even more uncertain to the south-east and south where they appear to be justified only for historical, linguistic and generally cultural reasons.

Museo di Storia della Scienza - Firenze in Toscana
Dal 1930 sede del museo è un antico palazzo più volte restaurato nel corso dei secoli, che trae il nome dai suoi ultimi proprietari, i Castellani. Vi è raccolta, con un accuratissimo allestimento, un’importante collezione di strumenti scientifici, testimonianza concreta dell’interesse per le scienze che a Firenze dal secolo XIII in poi andò di pari passo con l’interesse per le arti. La raccolta è dovuta, almeno nel suo nucleo più antico, al culto per le scienze naturali, fisiche e matematiche che animò i granduchi medicei e lorenesi: per primi Cosimo I e Francesco de’ Medici, come è noto, dettero grande impulso alle ricerche tecnico-artistiche nelle botteghe granducali, ma anche nel Seicento Ferdinando II e il Cardinale Leopoldo in particolare promossero ed eseguirono personalmente esperimenti di fisica nella migliore applicazione del metodo galileiano.
