Tuscany is the fifth largest region in Italy. Wedged deeply like a triangle in the heart of Italy, it constitutes a transitional, area between the Po Delta and Liguria, which are highly industrialized, and those Italian regions which are still principally agricultural. It stretches over the western side of the Apennines and includes the islands of the Tuscan archipelago. It lies on the sea to the west and south-west and borders with Liguria to the north-west, Emilia-Romagna to the north, the Marches and Umbria to the east, and Latium to the south-east.
Its limits are clearly defined to the north but less evident to the east, crossing the main ridge of the Tusco-Emilian Apennines and taking in the upper Val Tiberina, becoming even more uncertain to the south-east and south where they appear to be justified only for historical, linguistic and generally cultural reasons.

Massa Carrara in Toscana - Il Tour del Monte Corchia
Itinerario molto impegnativo da evitare nel periodo invernale. Dalla rotabile del Cipollaio, si segue la strada larga ed asfaltata che conduce in salita al Passo di Croce. Da qui la strada diviene sterrata e prosegue alternando tratti ripidi ad altri pianeggianti fino a Fociomboli. A questo punto si abbandona la strada che prosegue verso destra e scavalcando il crinale si inizia a scendere per una strada chiusa da una sbarra in direzione di Puntato (segnavia n. 11 CAI). Il tracciato è molto ripido per ca. 1 Km. poi prosegue a saliscendi fino ad una casa alla sommità di una conca di prati dove la strada si trasforma in sentiero. E' necessario scendere per tracce di sentiero, fino al margine inferiore dei prati arrivando alla Chiesa di Puntato da dove, ancora per segnavia n. 11 CAI, si raggiunge Col di Favilla. Tutta questa parte di itinerario si presenta impegnativa, e per alcuni tratti sarà necessario procedere con la bici in spalla.
