Tuscany is the fifth largest region in Italy. Wedged deeply like a triangle in the heart of Italy, it constitutes a transitional, area between the Po Delta and Liguria, which are highly industrialized, and those Italian regions which are still principally agricultural. It stretches over the western side of the Apennines and includes the islands of the Tuscan archipelago. It lies on the sea to the west and south-west and borders with Liguria to the north-west, Emilia-Romagna to the north, the Marches and Umbria to the east, and Latium to the south-east.
Its limits are clearly defined to the north but less evident to the east, crossing the main ridge of the Tusco-Emilian Apennines and taking in the upper Val Tiberina, becoming even more uncertain to the south-east and south where they appear to be justified only for historical, linguistic and generally cultural reasons.

Commune de Casola en Lunigiana en Toscane
Casola, du romain “casuli”, la porte de la Lunigiana au Parc des Apuanes, un paysage riche en beautés naturelles et sauvages, se trouve sur un éperon rocheux au bord du fleuve Aulella et du Tassinaro, embrassant la chaîne des Apennins et des Apuanes, zone de séparation entre Lunigiana et Garfagnana.
VISITE DU CENTRE HISTORIQUE
Le bourg fortifié se développa vers le XV siècle autour d’un château dont il ne reste aujourd’hui qu’une tour cylindrique et des restes de remparts. Le vieux Palazzo comunale est le siège du musée du territoire de la haute vallée d’Aulella, dans lequel sont conservés les restes de l’installation des hommes en Lunigiana dès le Paléolithique inférieur jusqu’à aujourd’hui. Le long de la voie qui reliait la vallée du Magra à Garfagnana fut construit l’hôpital de Tea, signe du nombre élevé de marchands et de pèlerins passant par Casola.
