Tuscany is the fifth largest region in Italy. Wedged deeply like a triangle in the heart of Italy, it constitutes a transitional, area between the Po Delta and Liguria, which are highly industrialized, and those Italian regions which are still principally agricultural. It stretches over the western side of the Apennines and includes the islands of the Tuscan archipelago. It lies on the sea to the west and south-west and borders with Liguria to the north-west, Emilia-Romagna to the north, the Marches and Umbria to the east, and Latium to the south-east.
Its limits are clearly defined to the north but less evident to the east, crossing the main ridge of the Tusco-Emilian Apennines and taking in the upper Val Tiberina, becoming even more uncertain to the south-east and south where they appear to be justified only for historical, linguistic and generally cultural reasons.

Chiesa Santuario del Santissimo Crocifisso, Pontedera - Pisa in Toscana
È conosciuta anche come Chiesa dei SS. Jacopo e Filippo. La sua costruzione risale al secolo XIII, ma i bombardamenti dell’ultima guerra l’hanno gravemente danneggiata, e dell’aspetto medievale conserva solo poche tracce sul lato destro. L’interno, ad unica navata, è scandito da sei altari laterali e conserva varie opere d’arte tra cui spicca la scultura lignea dell’“Annunziata” della bottega di Nino Pisano, datata alla metà del secolo XIV.
Fra le altre opere presenti meritano menzione: un frammento di affresco del secolo XIV di scuola pisana, venerato come “Madonna del Carmine”; la “Madonna del Rosario tra i Santi Monica, Domenico di Guzman e Agostino Vescovo” risalente al 1595 ad opera del Cigoli; un tabernacolo in marmo, attribuito agli scultori Riccomini e Gagini. Sull’altare maggiore è presente un tabernacolo ottocentesco in argento commissionato per il Crocifisso ligneo del secolo XVI.
