Piedmont lies in a peripherical position with respect to the rest of Italy but its relative proximity to the sea and contact with France and Switzerland have, over the centuries, led to the creation of an important commercial transit network which has favoured its present economic development.

To discover the culture of these people it is worth visiting the Walser Museum, situated in the Pedemonte hamlet. This is situated in a house dating from 1628, which, thanks to the local inhabitants work, has been faithfully brought back to its original characteristics, both in terms of building types and internal space distribution and in terms of furniture (for information: telephone 347 1377404).
