Lombardy covers approximately the centre of the Po Valley, as well as extending over the middle of the Italian Alps. It borders with Switzerland to the north, Emilia-Romagna to the south, Piedmont to the west and Trentino-Alto Adige and Venetia to the east. The region (23,856 sq km.) is only the fourth largest in Italy though it is unquestionably the most densely populated (c. 8,879,000); the population density (372 inhabitants per sq.km) makes Lombardy the second region, after Campania; 1/14 of the country's entire population is concentrated in the Province of Milan.
History. Three distinct natural zones can be fairly easily distinguished in the Lombardy region: mountain, hill and plain. Academia Carrara en Bergamo
El estribo representa el Martirio de S. Stefano, Cristo depuesto en el Sepulcro, S. Domenico resuscita al nieto del Cardinal Fossanova. En origen el estribo hacía parte de la Pala dicha Martinengo hoy conservada en la iglesia de S. Bartolomeo.
- Bodas místicas de S. Caterina, un Ángel y Niccoló Borghi,lo que encargó el pintado. En la derecha, en alto, en origen figuraba una vista del Monte Sinai, que un soldato quitó de allí durante la ocupación francesa.
- Retrato de Lucina Brembati (1518-20), tabla. En la luna se leen las letras CI que, inseridas en el nombre del astro nocturno se leen LU-CI-NA, mientras el nombre de los Brembati resulta en el blasón sobre el anillo de derecha.
- Vírgen con el Niño que duerme y los Sanctos Giuseppe y Caterina de Alessandria. Lienzo, 1533. Es la obra más tarda conservada en Bergamo – con la excepción de la pala de Sedrina- aunque haya sido pintado para la ciudad de Ferrara.
