Latium (Lazio) is a region in Central Italy, on the Tyrrhenian side of the peninsula, except for a small strip on the Adriatic side. Lying to the west on the Tyrrhenian Sea, this region borders to the north with Tuscany, with Umbria and for a short stretch with the Marches. To the east Latium borders with Abruzzo and briefly with Molise and with Campania to the south; within its present limits it has not, however, geographical unity.
History. The morphology of Latium is very complex but four main sub-regions can be defined: the Tyrrhenian coast, the inland plains, the mountains of the Latium Pre-Apennines and a true Apennine area. The coast is mainly low and uniform, broken only by the spurs of Linaro point, Mount Circeo (541 m.) and the Gaeta headland: the Ponzian Islands, which are part of Latium, lie opposite the south coast.

Filettino - Frosinone nel Lazio
E’ uno dei più piccoli comuni della Provincia di Frosinone, situato ad un’altitudine di 1075 metri, alle sorgenti del fiume Aniene, con alle spalle il massiccio del Monte Viglio (circa 2200 metri) ed i campi di sci di Campo Staffi (circa 2000 metri). Esso costituisce uno dei comprensori montani e naturalistici più interessanti dell’intera Regione Lazio, assieme a Trevi nel Lazio ed agli Altipiani di Arcinazzo. Probabilmente Filettino fu fondata nel VI° secolo dalle popolazioni del basso Lazio in fuga dalle invasioni barbariche. Le prime abitazioni sorsero sul crinale chiamato Codardo, in una lunga fila, da qui il nome Filettino. Il nome della cittadina appare per la prima volta nell’atto con il quale il papa Niccolò II° (1059-1061) sopprimeva il vescovado di Trevi ed univa le città ed i paesi vicini alla diocesi di Anagni.
