Situated in Mediterranean Europe, Italy has land frontiers with France in the north-west, Switzerland and Austria in the north and Slovenia in the north-east. There is a great deal of variety in the landscape in Italy, although it is characterized predominantly by two mountain chains: the Alps and the Apennines. The former extends over 600 miles from east to west. It consists of great massifs in the western sector, with peaks rising to over 14,000 feet, including Monte Bianco (Mont Blanc), Monte Rosa and Cervino (the Matterhorn). Wanderweg, CAI – Italienischer Alpenclub - Vercelli in Piemonte
Nachdem man die Berghütte Pastore (1575m) erreicht hat, nimmt man den Saumpfad, der auf der gegenüberliegenden Wiese beginnt, durch den Wegweiser Nr.6 gekennzeichnet ist und langsam das Borstal ergründet. Im Winter ist es die Perle der Wanderer, die gerne querfeldein laufen.
Der Weg ist sehr leicht und angenehm. An vielen Punkten trifft er auf den Fluß, wo man auf Tragflächen, die für alle wohl geeignetet sind, den Fluß überqueren kann und auf mehrere Wiesen, wobei die Großflächigste wohl die der Casera Lunga Alm (1644m) ist. Zur Sommerszeit kommt es häufig vor, daß man während der Wanderung auf den Weiden auf Kühe trifft, die sich nicht im geringsten von den Vorbeikommenden stören lassen.
Nach etwa 30 Minuten überquert ein kleiner Steg einen entzückenden Wasserlauf: ab hier verändert sich die Route.
