Lying on the Tyrrhenian Sea in a sweeping curve between the mouth of the Garigliano and the Gulf of Policastro, Campania is chiefly a maritime region, a transit area and a node for the principal lines of communication which cross the Apennines, linking South Italy with the central-northern regions. It is the twelfth largest region, has the second highest number of inhabitants after Lombardy, and the highest density of population in Italy. It borders with Latium to the north-west, Molise to the north, Puglia to the north-east and Basilicata to the south. To the west it lies on the Tyrrhenian Sea.
History. Campania can structurally be divided into two clearly defined zones stretching northwest-southeast parallel to the coast. Benevento in Campania - Guardia Sanframondi
Guardia Sanframondi paese di origine longobarda e poi normanna, conserva intatto il suo caratteristico aspetto medioevale. L’attuale abitato fu costruito intorno al castello fatto edificare dal normanno Raone capostipite della famiglia dei Sanframondo nel 1139. Recentemente restaurato, il castello conserva il fascino della sua originaria maestosità ed imponenza. L’abitato appartenne prima ai Sanframondo, poi a Della Marra, per tornare quindi ai Sanframondo fino al 1483, poi alla famiglia Carafa che lo possedette fino all’eversione della feudalità nel 1806. Il paese è ubicato in un contesto naturale fatto di vigneti ed oliveti che ricoprono ogni collina ed ogni angolo del territorio. Famosa è la produzione del vino “Guardiolo d.o.c.” che rappresenta la principale risorsa economica del paese. La bontà del prodotto è apprezzata sia in Italia che all’estero.
