Lying on the Tyrrhenian Sea in a sweeping curve between the mouth of the Garigliano and the Gulf of Policastro, Campania is chiefly a maritime region, a transit area and a node for the principal lines of communication which cross the Apennines, linking South Italy with the central-northern regions. It is the twelfth largest region, has the second highest number of inhabitants after Lombardy, and the highest density of population in Italy. Italy - Information on Ceppaloni in the Province of Benevento
The town of Ceppaloni is situated in an impressive scenery, being surrounded by a countryside rich in olive groves and vineyards. Formed by the hamlets of Beltiglio and San Giovanni, its historical origins go back to the Middle Ages, when it was a Longobard steward’s land in Benevento.
It was a feud of the Della Marra family first, then of the D’Avalos and the Della Leonessa families, who possessed it up to the abolition of feudalism. On the unity of Italy, it became part of the province of Benevento.
