Lying on the Tyrrhenian Sea in a sweeping curve between the mouth of the Garigliano and the Gulf of Policastro, Campania is chiefly a maritime region, a transit area and a node for the principal lines of communication which cross the Apennines, linking South Italy with the central-northern regions. It is the twelfth largest region, has the second highest number of inhabitants after Lombardy, and the highest density of population in Italy. From 1877 the thermal springs started to be considered as an industrial source of economic development, and in 1992 the village took the name of Telese Terme. Along the way leading to the neighbouring San Salvatore, like in an open-air museum we can see remains of the boundary walls of the ancient Telesia, which, during the Punic Wars, was first conquered by Hannibal and then re-conquered by Quinto Fabio Massimo, as reported by Titus Livy in his Annals.
NOT TO BE MISSED:
1. The imposing vestiges of the medioeval tower built with materials of the ancient Telesia, that bears witness of the ... Read More...
