Situated in Mediterranean Europe, Italy has land frontiers with France in the north-west, Switzerland and Austria in the north and Slovenia in the north-east. The peninsula is surrounded by the Ligurian Sea, the Sardinian Sea and the Tyrrhenian Sea in the west, the Sicilian Sea and the Ionian Sea in the south and the Adriatic Sea in the east. Italian is the language of the majority of the population but there are minorities speaking German, French, Slovene and Ladino.
There is a great deal of variety in the landscape in Italy, although it is characterized predominantly by two mountain chains: the Alps and the Apennines. The former extends over 600 miles from east to west. It consists of great massifs in the western sector, with peaks rising to over 14,000 feet, including Monte Bianco (Mont Blanc), Monte Rosa and Cervino (the Matterhorn). Chiesa Abbazia di San Bartolomeo, Capannoli - Pisa in Toscana
L’Abbazia di San Bartolomeo, patrono di Capannoli, nasce come Pieve già nell’XI secolo, ma viene ricostruita ove attualmente si trova, nel 1389 e dedicata a San Bartolomeo con i materiali della vecchia Pieve diroccata. Una bolla del Pontefice Urbano VIII soppresse il nome di Pieve e assegnò alla chiesa il grado di Abbazia nel mese di marzo 1631. Il campanile fu innalzato solo nel 1822 ad opera dell’Ing. Riccetti di Pisa e nello stesso furono successivamente collocate tre nuove campane costruite dal fonditore Morena di Firenze. Sia il campanile che le campane furono pagate anche con il contributo anche di tutti i cittadini. Il suo aspetto attuale è il risultato di profondi interventi di metà 800 che cancellarono completamente le strutture medievali.
La rigida partitura geometrica della facciate riflette la divisione interna a tre navate. L’interno ampio e imponente è scandito da alte colonne che separano le navate sostenendo la copertura a volte conclusa dalla cupola centrale. Nei b ... Read More...
