Massa Carrara in Toscana - Pieve di Crespiano
La pieve di Crespiano, dedicata a Santa Maria Assunta, riporta una lapide con iscrizione "Oto magister me fecit" che è l'unico documento relativo all'edificazione di una pieve della Lunigiana. La lapide indica che il maestro Ottone ricostruì o restaurò la chiesa nel 1079 in stile romanico. La pieve fu poi modificata in età rinascimentale ed in epoca barocca quando le sue capriate furono sostituite con volte a crociera, che richiesero l'innalzamento dei muri laterali e un consolidamento effettuato con contrafforti esterni.
Alla facciata vennero aggiunti due pilastri in rilievo e una cornice sormontata da un frontone. Lo stesso impianto interno dei colonnati fu riorganizzato probabilmente in questa fase. Un restauro successivo, eseguito nell'Ottocento, ha prodotto ulteriori alterazioni: nella facciata con l'abrasione degli aggetti paleoromanici, e nell'interno, dove sono stati gravemente danneggiati i capitelli preromanici.
