Italy - Information on Paduli in the Province of Benevento

Paduli, active agricultural centre, is renowned for its oil production. This medioeval village had a great strategic importance, not only thanks to its position - on a hill dominating the plain below, which connects Paduli with Benevento – but also because it was crossed by an important street connecting Benevento with Puglia.

For this reason, in 1137 Ruggero the Norman chose Paduli to hide and withstand Earl Rainulfo’s siege. After the Swabian period, it passed under the control of the county of Ariano. In the 14th c. the Angevin kept the Papal State from appropriating it; it became then Alphonse of Aragon’s possession. It was a feud of the Carbone family, of the Caracciolo and the Coscia who, in 1727, built their feudal palace, today’s Town-Hall.

NOT TO BE MISSED:
1. Historical centre. 2. The Coscia Palace. 3. Church of St. Bartolomeo. 4. Church of St. Giovanni. 5. Church of St. Rocco. 6. Church and monastery of the Madonna di Loreto, dating back to the beginning of the 18thc.
