Italy - Information on Melizzano in the Province of Benevento
Situated in the Taburno district, the village is renowned for its farm produce, such as excellent olive-oil and wine. Some scholars identify Melizzano as the the old Samnite town of Melae mentioned in Titus Livy’s Annals, but well-gounded news about the village dates back to the Norman Age, when it was a hamlet in the county of Caserta. It was a feud of the Gambacorta family first, it passed then to the Corso family, who owned it up to the abolition of feudalism.
