Italy - Information on Degli Schiavone in the Province of Benevento
Ginestra degli Schiavoni is one of the smallest villages in the province of Benevento.
The first historical data goes back to the 2nd half of the 12th century. In 1528 the built-up area was repopulated by a group of “Schiavoni” coming from Albania, who settled there and added the place-name of “Schiavoni” to Ginestra. It was a feud of the Carafa family, then of the Caracciolo family, becoming afterwards the Spanish captain Marco Ciaburno’s estate, as he was the first baron of this land.
The Ciaburno family owned it up to the abolition of feudalism. On the unity of Italy it was annexed to the province of Benevento.
