Montenero und die wallfahrtskirche - Toskana
Der bereits seit dem 18. Jh. für seine landschaftliche Schönheit bekannte Ausflugsort Montenero liegt auf einem Hügel und bietet einen wunderschönen Ausblick auf die Stadt und das Meer. Hier befindet sich die bekannte, der Patronin der Toskana, Santa Maria delle Grazie gewidmete Wallfahrtskirche.
Die Kirche und das Kloster erreicht man über eine breite Freitreppe. Zur Linken geht der Kirche ein elliptisches, mit Fresken geschmücktes Atrium voraus; auf der rechten Seite beherbergt der Bogengang eine Gedenkkapelle, in der sich Grabmäler bekannter Persönlichkeiten der Stadt befinden, u.a. die der Maler Enrico Pollastrini, Giovanni Fattori und des Bildhauers Paolo Emilio Demi.
Im Inneren der prächtig mit Stuck und vielfarbigen Marmor dekorierten Wallfahrtskirche erreicht man durch die Sakristei eine lange Galerie mit Votivbildern, Zeugnisse einer besonders an den Marienkult gewandten, volkstümlichen Frömmigkeit.
Von den Votivbildern, die teilweise einen beachtlichen künstlerischen Wert besitzen, stammen die ältesten aus dem 19. Jh. und sind wahre historische Dokumente. Aus der Sammlung sind vor allem jene Bilder besonders bekannt, die sich mit Themen rund ums Meer beschäftigen. Sie werden auch auf internationalen Ausstellungen gezeigt.
