Lake Trasimeno in Umbria, Italy

Between Rome (145 Km) and Florence(120 Km), between Siena (70 Km) and Perugia (20 Km), between Orvieto (42 Km), Arezzo (40 Km) and Cortona (18 Km), the Trasimeno District is at the centre of the world's richest area in historical, artistic and cultural phenomena: it takes no more than two hours to reach most of the ancient and mediaeval art and much of the Renaissance art. Lake Trasimeno, from which the District takes its name, has a surface area of 128 Km2, a circumference of 45 Km and a maximum depth of 6 metres.

Three islands rise out of its waters: Maggiore, Minore and Polvese. The absence of important industrial settlements and inhabited centres on a large scale make the Trasimeno District a place where the earth, air and water are not adversely affected by pollution and where life progresses peacefully. The small towns, both those which look out over the lake, such as Castiglione del Lago, Magione, Passignano sul Trasimeno, Tuoro sul Trasimeno, and those situated on the pleasant hills, such as Città della Pieve, Paciano, Panicale and Piegaro, all rich in history and art, offer a good number of comfortable hotels, campsites, vacation apartments, farm holiday facilities and restaurants, where visitors will meet with warmth and consideration and can enjoy the ancient and genuine flavours of the local cuisine.

Following the various itineraries on foot or on horseback will give you the opportunity to soak up the mediaeval atmosphere. The more contemplative of you can play golf and practice archery, whilst others may choose, or share their time, between tennis, football, bicycle rides, sailing and windsurfing. The more sedentary, on the other hand, can have a relaxing time swimming and sunbathing on one of the many little beaches. Anyone wishing to visit the islands can make use of the APM ferry service, which links them to the main towns on the shore.

Now you have more than one reason to spend your holidays on the shores of Trasimeno.
