The economy of Piegaro is characterized by its traditional agricultural activities (cereals, grapevines, tobacco and natural products gathered in the woods), and industrial activities which have developed around the electrical plant of Pietrafitta and a glass-making manufacturer
Brief History - Piegaro was founded by the Romans in 290 b.C., when the town was probably used in treating soldiers injured in the Chiusi war. In the Middle Ages, it was part of the fiefs of the neighbouring towns (Montegabbione, Orvieto, Perugia, and Marsciano) until the 16th century when it became part of the Church State. The Church’s domination ended in 1860 when the Kingdom of Italy was founded.
