Things to see in Rufina in the Val Di Sieve in Tuscany
The most outstanding monument of Rufina is the Villa di Poggio Reale, also known as Villa Pantellini. It represents the architectural tradition of the 16th century surburban villa construction, located in an elevated position, with many low walls, the tenaille stairway, the inside with a central hall on the ground floor, where stairs depart leading to other rooms.
The villa is the seat of the Vineyard and Wine Museum, which includes: an exhibition of instruments for grape cultivation and for the production and preservation of wine, used between 1930 and 1960; a large exhibition of blown glass from the 1700’s; a collection of 3500 volumes and documents on the historic aspects of grape and wine cultivation.
The Castiglioni Castle, on the road with connects the SS 67 to Pomino, was an ancient castle which became property of the bishops of Fiesole and still has an imposing quadrilateral mass, on one side is the aspe of a Romanic Chapel and the ancient bishop’s palace.
The Parish Church of S.Bartolomeo in Pomino (12th century) deserves a visit. It is in an elevated position and is an example of Romanic Tuscan architecture, although it went through some transformation in the 17th and 18th centuries.
The Chianti Rufina and Pomino Wine Road is located in this beautiful, largely uncontaminated scenery. The Road offers the possibility to discover the many beautiful sites in the territory and visit the wine estates.
