History of Montelupo Fiorentino in Tuscany
The territory of Montelupo Fiorentino, represented a sort of communication link between central and southern Tuscany and the Appennines for ancient populations, due to its geographical position.
The surrounding area played an important role in pre-Etruscan and Etruscan population, centered in the nearby towns of Artimino and Montereggi. The Roman colonization studded the area with many rustic villas, evidenced in the remains of locally produced amphoras, and it produced a very valued wine.
With the construction of the Castle of Montelupo, probably at the end of the Early Middle Ages, and above all the presence of the Florentine Republic, which substantially enlarged the inhabited area of the town, the workmanship of enamelled ceramic majolica become the most important activity.
