Historical Buildings in Greve in Chianti, Tuscany
The Parish Church of San Leolino in Panzano: Located on the Via Chiantigiana, the parish was recorded in the 10th century but was rebuilt in the Romanic style in the first part of the 12th century.
The Church of Santa Croce in Greve: Located in the main square of the town, the church stands on the area where there was a small medieval chapel, demolished at the beginning of the last century. The building was erected in Neo Renaissance style between 1833 and 1835.
Montefioralle: The castle is still contained in the original city walls, which is dominated by an imposing turreted construction.
The Church of S. Stefano is in the centre of the village.
Parish Church of San Cresci: One of the most antique parishes of the diocese of Fiesole, documented for the first time in 963. The original building was modified through numerous reconstructions and maintains only some parts of the original Romanic part.
The Verrazzano Castle
It probably originated from a Roman settlement. It belonged to the great navigator, Giovanni da Verrazzano. It was later transformed into a farmhouse and a manor-house villa, and after the 19th century restoration, it returned to its previous splendor of a turreted building, surrounded by a beautiful Italian style garden.
The Vicchiomaggio Castle
Documented for the first time in 857, the castle is also called Vico de’Lombardi, in memory of its Longobard origins. Only a 13th century tower remains of the primitive construction, while the remaining part was transformed into a villa in the 1500’s. It is surrounded by a small Italian style garden.
