Civic Museum, Corregio, Emilia Romagna

The City Museum is located inside Palazzo dei Principi and houses, among other things, works by the painters Mantegna, Correggio, etc.

The museum is located in the Piano Nobile (Nobile Floor) of the Palazzo Principi. It houses collections of artwork and objects of considerable artistic interest originating from various churches, public properties, and the private collections of the Da Correggio family.

The museum displays archaeological materials from the Correggio area, coins from the Correggio mint, and artworks from the town and surrounding area, including valuable paintings by Andrea Mantegna, Girolamo Donnini, Mattia Preti, Baldassarre Aloisi (known as Galanino), Francesco Madonnina, Mauro Soderini, Luigi Asioli, Adeodato Malatesta, and Vincenzo Vela.

On the first floor, there are five halls divided as follows:

· Hall of archaeological exhibits and coin and medal collections, displaying some of the most significant items from the pre-Roman, Roman, Medieval and Renaissance periods found in the Correggio area.
One showcase is dedicated to the objects found around the castle of Canolo.
Also on display are a number of 16th- and 17th-century coins from the Correggio mint and medals connected with historically prominent citizens of the town.

· Mantegna Hall: also known as the Grand Hall or “Camio Hall”. It has a magnificent coffered ceiling over a frescoed frieze, and a superb fireplace. The hall contains numerous artworks, including “The Redeemer” painted by Andrea Mantegna in 1493, “Our Lady of the Rosary” by Francesco Madonnina, and a small wooden altar and a painting of “Christ being taken down from the Cross” both from the 15th century.

· Tapestry Hall: contains a set of nine large 16th-century tapestries and two candelabra of Flemish manufacture.

A number of portraits of the Da Coreggio family and court members are also on display, as well as paintings with a religious theme and a map of the town of Correggio (about 1630).

· 17th- and 18th-century Gallery
· Hall of the painter Correggio: a number of engravings based on works by Correggio are exhibited on rotation.
· Works connected with Antonio Allegri and his work are also on display in this hall

On the second floor, the following rooms can be visited by organized groups, subject to prior booking arrangements:

· Hall of 19th-century paintings and sculptures
· Portrait Gallery
· Hall of the Capriate
· Hall of the archives
