Destination: DUMBEA

The town of Dumbéa, situated only a few minutes from Nouméa, allows you to discover in a day or half-day excursion the first foothills of the typical New Caledonia wild nature. The Koghi Mountain and it's primary tropical forest are the most accessible way to discover the rich endemic flora of New Caledonia. Do you golf ? (The) Dumbéa and its exceptional golf course reserve you unique sensations. You love to dive in clear river water, walk on wild mountains sides ; the closest adventures from your hotel are at Dumbéa.

History - When New Caledonia becomes French in 1853, Dumbéa is the frontier : the first concessions are assigned to Koé, along the Dumbéa river as early as 1858, and the sugar cane exploitations left numerous traces in the valley. It is in Dumbéa that Jules Garnier discovered those beautiful green rocks, a variety of nickel that kept his name. The mines can testify this story.

The agricultural penal colonisation and the epic of small train marked the development of Dumbéa. But, over all, Dumbéa is lincked with water, Dumbéa is a nourishing river that still waters the capital, waters the vegetable gardens which feed the city. The river gave it's name to the town, the third most important in New Caledonia.

Events

You can only see it at Dumbéa - The great fair of the Giant Omelet : At the Fayard park, during the second weekend after Easter, take part, for two days, in shows and popular animations with the making and the free distribution to the public of the famous Giant omelet.

The Caledonian village (October) : At the Fayard park, all the different communities of New Caledonia and the Pacific gather for two days to present their cultural, artistic and craftman's specificity : Animations, exhibitions and shows. Other strong moments : the Festival of Music (June), The international Golf Open of Dumbéa (August), The National Heritage day (September), and the push car race of Koutio (November).

Settings - The wild gorges and the green valley of Dumbéa, the river and it's many diving spots, accessible from the barrage road, the primary endemic forest of the Koghi Mountains, are to be discovered during a family ride or an athletic hike from the koghi's Inn. To the extreme adventure in the great natural landscapes of the Dzumac Mountains, (on 4WD car, mountain bike or on foot), or a family picnic at the Fayard park, everything is possible.

Dumbéa offers you an important diversity of extraordinary landscapes, exceptional sites, a few minutes only from the New Caledonian capital.
